As cities around the world make strides to revitalize their urban cores, some projects stand out as beacons of sustainability. The AIA jury did not mince words as they handed out this year’s 2010 Institute Honors Award for Architecture to the Macallen Building, proclaiming that “The building is inventive and at times, ingenious”. Designed by Office dA, the LEED Gold residential tower in South Boston is a green-roofed beauty that garnered attention for its compelling design and its green building strategies. The building changes scale to meet the challenges of its site — from adjacent overpasses to different zoning requirements — all while maintaining a graceful and sustainable profile.
